#IftarWithTwitterpura

Sunday, August 12, 2012 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Last week, I spent one of the evenings breaking fast with a group of friends I got to now through Twitter. Dinner was held at Chai Chee Restaurant. Photos with the watermark are mine, the rest are photos from Atiqah and Afiq. Oooh, check it out. Both names start with the same letter!

This is the first time we are having such an event for Twitterpura, which is a tweet-up more skewed towards the Malay Twitter community. I've been to tweet-ups such as events like The Next Big Bang, Twestival, Social media day (all happened last year) and I believe such events are great for networking and for widening of your social circle. I myself had always wanted to organise such a tweet-up, but you know how we humans are, sometimes macam hangat - hangat taik ayam. It's not easy organising such an event, so kudos to Atiqah for putting in so much effort! ❤❤❤

Here are the intro stickers Atiqah printed for us. *Photo by Atiqah

This restaurant is relatively famous among the Malay Muslim community in Singapore because of it's tasty food. True enough, the food we had the other night was extremely yums!

You might think that Twitter is just another social networking site, but for me it has truly changed my life. I've been on Twitter for almost 3 years now. Back when I first started, my parents never understood why I tweeted and blogged so much. They found it a waste of time. Then again, over the years I have proved to them that it is not just passion that drives me. I am probably one of the luckiest people to turn a passion into a career.

Through Twitter, I have met many people within the industry who are very encouraging and supportive. It was through Twitter also that I found my current job. Every now and then, I meet people who say that they too want to make this into a career, but truth be told that it's not as easy as it seems to be. Fundamentals of marketing and PR are still crucial in this line and it helps if you have your own social media presence to give yourself a competitive edge as compared to other job applicants. Blessed. =)

Dear readers, I hope you have a blessed Ramadhan.
Thank you for your never ending support and emails. I will be replying to you in a while! ❤

What's the difference between a sponsored and advertorial post?

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 / , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Unrelated picture, but yums.....

This one's for the new bloggers, readers who are not too sure of the difference between a Sponsored/Advertorial. This might not apply to all bloggers, but I just thought I should blog about this since I see so many new bloggers making this mistake. When I first started blogging, I made this mistake too until a fellow blogger corrected me. It was embarassing, that's for sure. For www.rynaque.com, I'll always disclose whether I got paid/freebies from the brands/blogshops I mentioned on my blog. This is a common rule so that readers know whether to trust the piece. As always, I've assured readers that no matter whether I got paid/given freebies, I keep my posts real and honest. :)

Advertorial - Means that I get paid for the blogpost you just read. Advertorial rates from blogger to blogger varies, depending on the number of eyeballs a blogger garners.

Sponsored - It means that while attending the event, I received some freebies. Also, it probably meant that the items I mentioned in the blog posts were sent by the brand itself for me to try out. As a blogger, as long as I'm not paid I am not obliged to blog about the brand/product. It's a gamble digital marketers/PR companies/brands have to take. I can assure you that most big brands are not willing to pay bloggers to spread the word for them because when it comes to digital/social media, they're looking to increase earned media, not paid media.

 Earned media = People talking about their brand on Facebook/Twitter/Buzz online.

Let's hope the new bloggers don't continue making the same mistake. Good luck kiddos. :)

Social Media Habits of Singaporean youth....

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 / ,

MynameisQUE;
Are you trying to market your brand/products to youths aged between 15-35?
You might find this video useful.

This year, 2nd year students of Singapore Polytechnic, Diploma in Media and Communication planned, organised and executed the Media and Communication Conference 2012. This year's theme is Click to Connect. I attended Day 1 of the conference and had a great time.

Also, this year the students conducted a survey to find out the impact of citizen journalism on Singaporean youth. Here are some stuff I found interesting. To find out more, click here.

So brands, time to engage your fans/followers more online! Year 2s, good job.

From complete strangers to friends. Do you ever meet the people you get to know online?

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 / , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

The other day, I met up with these 2 beautiful ladies I got to know online. On the left is Anith, I got to know 3 years ago when I first started blogging. She was blogging anonymously at that time and only after a year..... Jeng, jeng, jeng.....  she revealed her identity to me. Met her in real life only once during some movie screening by Nuffnang.

On the right is Aishah, a fellow libra whom I got to know on Twitter a year ago back when I was tweeting emo things, ranting about how life and stuff like that. It was the first time meeting her! It was also the first time these 2 girls met. :>

 Aishah and I.

So... I suggested Fish and Co for dinner because you know, everybody says that the food is pretty good. Anyway, what better way to bond with the girls than a night of good food and laughter?

This was what I had for dinner.
Fish + Chicken + fries + mash potato.
 It was just too much for me to handle, I didn't even try the fish at all because I was too full. :(
 Here's Anith calling the water to refill her drink. HAHAHAHHAHA

 Aishah making faces.

Overall, I felt that Fish and Co has a wide selection of food. I was impressed but after the next day, I had an extremely bad stomach flu which lasted for 5 days. Diarrhea and vomiting. :( It was really quite bad. Asked the girls but they were alright. I told my doctor about it and he said the virus there could be other possibilities. If not the food, perhaps the utensils, cups etc. So, I'll never know what caused the whole stomach flu. I'm not sure if it was because of the food served. So.... the next time I'll probably eat again at Fish and Co would be.... Well, not so soon definitely.

Back to the topic of meeting people you got to know online. I really love how the internet allows us to meet and connect with different people from all walks of life. From working adults to stay-at-home mums. It's really interesting because most of them are all older than me. These people are also the ones who would share their insights and stories. If my mum were to read this, she'll probably nag at me about how there are so many dangerous people online etc. Haha parents. :P

We are the digital generation. :)

Facebook has a new Timeline!

Saturday, October 8, 2011 / ,

LOVING THE LAYOUT!! As much as I thought the steps to get the new timeline would be difficult, looks like it's pretty easy!! Wanna see how my Facebook looks like now?

I love it! Comment on this post if you wanna know how I did it!!! :D

I should show my parents this.

Monday, August 8, 2011 /

MynameisQUE;

This is an awesome video. The next time my parents question my decision of pursuing this as a career, I'll show them this. To be honest, for me traditional media is rather... MEH... I used to get all excited when I watch TV and read magazines. Not anymore. :)

This is it.

Do you need a social media detox?

MynameisQUE;

For a Tweet Freak like me, I probably relate to Tweet Speak the most. In my head, when I see people IRL I'll be matching their names to their Twitter handles. It's crazy.

Like for @Mhisham, I know his name is Hisham but I still call him @Mhisham.

Ok this is getting weird.

We all know that looking for a job isn't easy, especially in tiny Singapore.

Situation A:
Flip through the pages of Classified and circle the jobs that you think is suitable for you. Call the number stated on the ad and the person turns you down because they position isn't available anymore.
ARGH!

Sounds familiar? What about this?

Situation B:
The interview with Company ABC went well (Well you think it did). They said that they'll "call" you soon. So you spend your time staring at your handphone waiting for the good news. Waiting, waiting, waiting....
THEY NEVER CALLED BACK.

Another familiar situation? Oh trust me. Been there, done that.

Is Facebook ruining your relationship?

Sunday, March 6, 2011 / , ,

MynameisQUE;

I've always wanted to blog about this but I just didn't really have the time to sit and
think about the impact Facebook has on me and I bet many other girls.
But here I am, almost a year after my relationship with the ex boyfriend ended,
typing this blog post because I finally have the courage to write about this.

Why isn't he Facebook-ing you?

Facebook has really changed our lifestyles. One example would be the relationship status of
someone in their FB. Here's what I think. If you get to know someone new, and he has never
asked you if you have Facebook, most probably, he's hiding something.
Like.... He's not exactly single like he claims to be.
Happened to me and I was right. Asked for his email and I found out
he was attached. Toldcha Facebook reveals alot about a person.

"It's complicated" to me spells out,
"Hey, I'm still not over my ex-girlfriend and we are still working things out".

Changing that relationship status from Single to In a Relationship

"If we're really in a relationship, why are you still single on Facebook?"

The changing of relationship might create alot of interest as it will definitely be
on your friend's live feed. That's why I make it a point to always
remove the "change" on my status. You'd think that 1 click
wouldn't cause that much chaos, but yes it will!

Overanalysing your other half's Facebook page

"Why does she keep liking your status?"
"You said you wanted to sleep. Why did you post a FB
status at 3am in the morning?!"

Facebook was one of the reasons things between the ex and me turned sour.
Just like any other person out there, I grew possesive.
Professing your love for someone was so much easier before the Facebook era.
I started writing mushy sweet nothings on his FB wall, dedicated songs blablabla and
being a very private person, he didn't like the fact that I was too open about things
on the social networking sites that I use. Lack of affection online
could be another reason why Facebook is relationship. :/

I'd constantly check on the new girl he just accepted on Facebook and
there was this girl who very oddly keeps chatting with him on Facebook.

Yes, he was cheating on me via Facebook.

I'm not too sure either. What about you?
Is Facebook ruining your relationship?

PS:// To be honest, before I go on a date with a person, I'd check his FB first
to see if there's anything fishy about him. Facebook not only
will reveal ALOT about the person, it also means
he can't "lie to me" about his last relationship, etc. ';)

#Twittamentary special screening at SMU

Tuesday, February 1, 2011 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

2 years ago, she set out on a journey to discover and document this
who social media phenomenon, Twitter. She embarked on the project with one thing in mind.

"I wanted an outcome I did not expect".

Yesterday, she screened her almost complete film to us at SMU.

I got lost, asked for directions and wondered why
I ended up at the carpark building instead of the admin building.

If you've been following me on twitter, last saturday you'd
have realised that I was using this #tnbb hashtag.

I got to know about the event as I was doing research
for my project. Was kinda looking through the profiles of
the people who are very active on Social media.

Plan was actually to go with another 2 group members but
they had to back out at the last minute.

So... I went with Farah!

The name itself makes me think of cheese. LOL.
I'm on a diet but I'm hungry. Not sure how this whole diet thing is going to last tho.

I got an email invite from a friend I got to know via Twitter.
Thanks @seraphina22!

To follow or not? That's the question.

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 /

I've always wondered why people choose to follow me on Twitter.
All i do is whine and complain. Hahahaha.
No kidding.

I've also always followed random people on Twitter because my life is boring.
(school-home-school-home) so i thought it would be nice to actually
follow other people, make friends, (and enemies LOL) on Twitter.
Cus supposedly their life is more interesting than mine.
Hahahahahahahaha
I CANNOT stand people who go around tweeting, "Follow for a follow?".
Honestly, if you're just following people to increase the number of followers,
than it beats the whole purpose of social media.
