Distance and Time

Thursday, September 27, 2012 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Sometimes, I wonder, what makes a person your bestfriend? My bestfriend and I are of 2 different personalities. We're currently both pursuing different things and yet we call each other, bestfriends. Could it be the ability to tell the person everything and anything on your mind without being judged for it? Or could it be that you can hang out with the other person without being someone else? I don't know. Perhaps, at this moment, the term bestfriend seems a little too vague for me. I've seen friendships fade over distance and time, especially as individuals grow older and start to have their own careers, family etc. The thought of friendships fading seems a little scary for me. So does the thought of break ups and divorce. Yikes. What am I rambling? Can this post not be so emo, zomg?

Here are some photos of 2 very cute girls for your viewing pleasure. Taken at Cafe Le Caire at Haji Lane. Urgh, the place is so gross, food's so expensive and you made us watch golf on the TV. Seriously guys?

Finally.... The Big 2 Zero.

MynameisQUE;

It is the first year I'm celebrating my birthday as a working adult. Gosh. Even the word adult still feels a little awkward for me at the moment. Let's hope I get used to it really soon. Today felt really nice.

At 1am, I received a phone call all the way from Phuket wishing me a happy birthday.

At 5.30am..... *Mum peeps into room and sneaks in*
After 5 seconds, she pretends to look around my room suspiciously.
I was half awake, so I asked her what she is trying to do.
"Oh, just looking at your messy room..... Happy Birthday!! Sleep, sleep!"
I didn't put into much thought on why she was acting weirdly, so I went back to sleep. Turns out, she sneaked into my room to place this birthday card on my bed. Thank you for the card and paying for my latest shopping haul from Asos! So excited to receive everything!!

At work, my colleagues surprised me too! Thank you ladies. You're the best!

On top of that, 987fm's Jade Seah did a shoutout for my birthday thanks to the ladyboss. :")

With Lay Peng.
With Calista.
 With Yi Jing.
Cherie looks extra flirty in here. Lol
 Megan :)))
 Ladyboss and I.
 Corrine :))

Can't believe I just turned 20. Can you believe it?
2 decades of being alive. Funny thought!

Thank you for the well wishes everybody. Will be replying to every single Facebook message, tweet, text, whatsapp and email very soon. It's nice to feel extra special on my birthday. Last week, I gave my family a treat at a new yummy food place. Will be blogging about it soon. Also, I'm looking forward to the weekends because I have some pretty exciting plans. Have a good week ya'll!

"What is most important is having the courage to stand up again after every fall."

My niece turned one a few weeks ago and she can now stand on her own! It's really hard to believe that I even have a niece now. Time pasts really fast, don't you think?

Will you love me even with my dark side?

Thursday, June 14, 2012 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

I am currently addicted to Kelly Clarkson's song Dark Side. I find Kelly so inspiring and it's really easy to relate to her songs. Ladies, don't you find yourself doing the same too?

Meanwhile it also reminded me of a Tedx video I came across about a month ago called The Power of Vulnerability by Brene Brown. Her video moved me a little. It made me understand myself a little more. It's like piecing fragments of my life together and truly understanding the concept of vulnerability. It made so much sense that I started to tear a little while watching it. It is a 20 min video, however if you have free time, you should really watch this too. I've rewatched this video countless of times. :)

“Vulnerability is our most accurate measurement of courage.”

“When we numb hard feelings, we numb joy, we numb gratitude, we numb happiness.”

When I heard this line, it made sense to me because I've been meeting people who hold themselves back while numbing their own feelings because they are a little sick of getting hurt. They build walls as a form of protection, yet at the end of the day, they don't feel happy. In fact, they feel empty. They'd lie to you about being "okay" and that they like living  their life emotionally unattached to anyone, but it's just a facade they wear to show that they're okay because they do not want to be vulnerable.

What are you views on this? Is it okay to be vulnerable?

I believe that it is okay to vulnerable. It is not a weakness. Think about falling in love. Don't you feel that it also takes courage to fall in love? To love someone wholeheartedly knowing that the person will have all the power to hurt you one day. It takes courage to be honest and to allow ourselves to be seen. Well, at least that's what I feel. It is an emotional risk, but it is also courage.

Don't you wanna know?

A few weeks ago after my graduation, my friends and I went to La Novella Studio for a photoshoot. We really had lots of fun! My dad was kind enough to send my friends and I to the studio so it was pretty easy for us. Will share more photos soon. Can't seem to find my thumbdrive!

Also, in other news, I've started taking driving lessons! Driving is so fun! I'm really thankful because mummy is paying for my lessons at the moment, at the same time I feel guilty for still depending on her. Can't wait to be financially stable and not rely on my parents. I've said this time and time again.

Well, that's all for now. Will update soon!

You will find a way

MynameisQUE;

Trust me, no matter how scary it seems, you’ll find a way. Be succinct and honest. Don’t beat yourself up. You haven’t failed. You’ve just reached a point in your life where you’re starting to know what you want.

 Google searches don’t look into your soul (yet).

Finally a Diploma Holder!

Ankle boots from Payless

Finally a diploma holder, Alhamdulillah.

3 years ago, I was a typical O'level student.

I had 2 choices, Poly or to join the education line and take up a diploma in teaching and subsequently be a Malay teacher, just like my bestfriend. I was really close to being accepted by MOE to be a Malay teacher. I found out that I was accepted into Singapore Polytechnic to pursue a Diploma in Media and Communication. To cut to the chase, I chose the latter instead.

I've always known that I wanted to pursue something related to the media, I just didn't know what exactly it would be. I had enough points to enter JC but personally I don't think that learning science/chemistry/history is really useful when you enter the work force. Plus, I wasn't really the "study type". I prefer hands on, group projects, you know something real and challenging at the same time.

During my first semester, I remember that I found it really hard to adapt to polytechnic life. I remember how much I hated the Marketing module because back then I didn't understand why I had to take business modules when I'm in mass comm. I survived and take a good look at me now. ;)

At Singapore Polytechnic, I had the best classmates.

 I even got to fulfill something on my "To-Do Before I Die" list which was to be an emcee for events.

Back in secondary school, only uhm.... "good students" were chosen to host concerts/shows in school. Meh... But here, I was given the opportunity to stand in front of an audience and talk. I wasn't the best emcee, but most importantly I loved what I was doing.

"Mass comm" in general is a huge thing. There's so many aspects of communication and to be honest, I am thankful that after the 3 years, I have found something I really am passionate about; digital communications. I have to say that I'm really lucky. I've met people who entered JC and in the end went to uni, yet still don't know whether the line they're pursuing is really "the one". I would really recommend the polytechnic route to anyone reading this. I've learnt and grown so much. I promise, you will too!

Thank you to every single one of you for making these 3 years amazing.

Special mentions to Ms Pam Fang and Ms Chong Li Min for believing and encouraging me to pursue what I love. I can never thank you enough for that. :')

Wanna find out what I've done within these 3 years?

See slideshow below :)

Now, to secure a full time job, earn and save money before I embark on my journey to take a degree.

Here we go again!

From complete strangers to friends. Do you ever meet the people you get to know online?

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 / , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

The other day, I met up with these 2 beautiful ladies I got to know online. On the left is Anith, I got to know 3 years ago when I first started blogging. She was blogging anonymously at that time and only after a year..... Jeng, jeng, jeng.....  she revealed her identity to me. Met her in real life only once during some movie screening by Nuffnang.

On the right is Aishah, a fellow libra whom I got to know on Twitter a year ago back when I was tweeting emo things, ranting about how life and stuff like that. It was the first time meeting her! It was also the first time these 2 girls met. :>

 Aishah and I.

So... I suggested Fish and Co for dinner because you know, everybody says that the food is pretty good. Anyway, what better way to bond with the girls than a night of good food and laughter?

This was what I had for dinner.
Fish + Chicken + fries + mash potato.
 It was just too much for me to handle, I didn't even try the fish at all because I was too full. :(
 Here's Anith calling the water to refill her drink. HAHAHAHHAHA

 Aishah making faces.

Overall, I felt that Fish and Co has a wide selection of food. I was impressed but after the next day, I had an extremely bad stomach flu which lasted for 5 days. Diarrhea and vomiting. :( It was really quite bad. Asked the girls but they were alright. I told my doctor about it and he said the virus there could be other possibilities. If not the food, perhaps the utensils, cups etc. So, I'll never know what caused the whole stomach flu. I'm not sure if it was because of the food served. So.... the next time I'll probably eat again at Fish and Co would be.... Well, not so soon definitely.

Back to the topic of meeting people you got to know online. I really love how the internet allows us to meet and connect with different people from all walks of life. From working adults to stay-at-home mums. It's really interesting because most of them are all older than me. These people are also the ones who would share their insights and stories. If my mum were to read this, she'll probably nag at me about how there are so many dangerous people online etc. Haha parents. :P

We are the digital generation. :)

I am the fat friend

Friday, February 10, 2012 / , ,

MynameisQUE;

Many of the girls I meet in life have low self esteem.

Picture taken using La Sardina at the Lomography.sg event.

They are the girls who look in the mirror and tell themselves that they are not pretty enough, they are not skinny enough when to me, they are actually really pretty. These are the girls who complain about being fat and ugly in front of me, expecting me to sing praises to them, just so that they can feel better about themselves. These are the girls who like hanging out and walking next to me just so that they can be the "more attractive one".

"I think I know why she's always hanging out with the fat girl, so that she'll be the more attractive one". I was probably 14 when a friend told me this. This line is still very fresh on my mind.

 I don't know man. I keep thinking about it and it makes me doubt my friendship with these girls. Am I JUST the fat friend? Are you just hanging out with me so that you feel good about yourself?
So that you'll feel less intimidated? Any of you girls feeling the same?

 Anyway, this blogpost was sparked by a tweet I read.

Currently making changes in my life,if you do not hear from me, you areone of them.

Today, I question the value of our friendship.

 I have friends but i don't befriend douchebags. I think i've been fairly nice and tolerant towards you. I tolerated your hurtful and insensitive jokes. I tolerated your rants about your obsession with bikes. Do you how it's like to listen you boasting about the girls you're dating/have dated? *yawns* That's all you talk about. Bikes and girls. It gets really annoying at times.

Until today, it hit me. Why are we even friends? Remember how you would boast about how you and your friends left girls on the expressway, one even at the zoo. Way to go dougebag! The fact that you actually told several people actually shows how proud you were of doing such things. A person who felt guilty, would keep such things to himself. It's disappointing to know that someone i called "A friend" would do such thing to a few girls. You told me those girls "deserved" to be treated like that because they cheated on your friend, made use of your friend yada yada yada. Seriously? Who are you? God? Who are you to decide how a person should be punished for his/her wrongdoings?

What you did simply reflects poorly on your character. You look down on so many people, thinking you're "much better than them".

This friendship is pointless.

Mcdonalds brings joy to the elderly!

MynameisQUE;

Happy.

Eating at Mcdonalds ALWAYS brings a smile to our faces.

Please. Don't pretend.

Are you sure you don't feel happy when you go to McDonalds?

LOOK AT THIS.
*dangles coupon in your face*
Buy one get one~~~

HAPPY RIGHT, HAPPY RIGHT? :D

Anyway, the yummy burger is not the main point of this entry.

McDonald's hosted 38 seniors from the Lion Befrienders Service Association last week for a Chinese New Year dinner and I decided that instead of going home after work, it'll be good if I attended the event because it's for a good cause. I don't actually celebrate Chinese New Year so I thought it would be a good experience to spend the evening with the seniors.

I tried mingling around with the seniors with the limited vocab I picked up while watching chinese dramas. Doesn't she look really happy?

The highlight of my evening.

This uncle took out his handphone and asked me to come nearer to him so that he could take a picture of me. I was so shyyyyy. And then, he asked if he could take a picture with me. So above is a photo of him and me using my camera.

He said that people with a broad nose (yes, like mine) would have alot of luck. Hmmmm.....

He called me "sayang" which means love in malay and hugged and kissed me before saying goodbye! Haha Wow, that was quite a night. Bf said it might be because I like to go for older guys. Hahahaha right!
> ___<""

Have you seen how big Ronald's shoes are? My goodness!

Look at how happy they all look!

After the seniors left, we had our dinner.

Look at those fries!

Anyway, you might be thinking......

"Why is this blogger giving Mcdonalds free publicity? This CNY thing is probably a one off thing to look good. PR lor. Last year kena slammed about not having curry!"

Well, let me share with you my experience with Mcdonalds.

3 years ago, in my first year of Polytechnic education, I had this module that required us to do some community involvement work. Thing is, we were given the freedom to contact, plan and liaise with any communities. The kampong being the kampong, we wanted to do something.... much more fun. Something meaningful. So we contacted Darul Ihsan and volunteered to plan an outing for the 15 underprivileged kids. We did all the planning but one thing we were lacking was... the funds for food.

So my group made wrote an email to McDonalds and asked if they were interested to be our sponsor. It was just a small outing. We planned all sorts of games for them!

15 kids aged 9 to 12
5 of us to be facilitators.
Venue: Botanic Gardens

 I was really skeptical that Mcdonalds would even reply us. I mean, why would they even bother. We were just a bunch of poly kids, but to our surprise, McDonalds actually AGREED to sponsor the kids food. We were extremely happy and thankful! Think about it this way. Mcdonalds knew that they probably wouldn't get anything in return for the sponsorship but they still did it for the kids. All of us were very touched by their kindness. Actually, we still are. I would love to post the photos of the outing but we weren't given permission to share photos of the kids online by Darul Ihsan. But rest assured, they were all VERY HAPPY. :)

Once again, thank you Mcdonalds.

Thank you for inviting the old folks and us bloggers to be part of your Chinese New Year dinner. Thank you for also sponsoring our outing's lunch for the Darul Ihsan kids 3 years ago.

Xoxo,
RynaQUE

PS://Have you tried the Prosperity burger?
I THINK I'M ADDICTED. :X
