Finally a Diploma Holder!

Monday, May 21, 2012 / , ,

Finally a diploma holder, Alhamdulillah.

3 years ago, I was a typical O'level student.

I had 2 choices, Poly or to join the education line and take up a diploma in teaching and subsequently be a Malay teacher, just like my bestfriend. I was really close to being accepted by MOE to be a Malay teacher. I found out that I was accepted into Singapore Polytechnic to pursue a Diploma in Media and Communication. To cut to the chase, I chose the latter instead.

I've always known that I wanted to pursue something related to the media, I just didn't know what exactly it would be. I had enough points to enter JC but personally I don't think that learning science/chemistry/history is really useful when you enter the work force. Plus, I wasn't really the "study type". I prefer hands on, group projects, you know something real and challenging at the same time.

During my first semester, I remember that I found it really hard to adapt to polytechnic life. I remember how much I hated the Marketing module because back then I didn't understand why I had to take business modules when I'm in mass comm. I survived and take a good look at me now. ;)

At Singapore Polytechnic, I had the best classmates.

I even got to fulfill something on my "To-Do Before I Die" list which was to be an emcee for events.

Back in secondary school, only uhm.... "good students" were chosen to host concerts/shows in school. Meh... But here, I was given the opportunity to stand in front of an audience and talk. I wasn't the best emcee, but most importantly I loved what I was doing.

"Mass comm" in general is a huge thing. There's so many aspects of communication and to be honest, I am thankful that after the 3 years, I have found something I really am passionate about; digital communications. I have to say that I'm really lucky. I've met people who entered JC and in the end went to uni, yet still don't know whether the line they're pursuing is really "the one". I would really recommend the polytechnic route to anyone reading this. I've learnt and grown so much. I promise, you will too!

Thank you to every single one of you for making these 3 years amazing.

Special mentions to Ms Pam Fang and Ms Chong Li Min for believing and encouraging me to pursue what I love. I can never thank you enough for that. :')

Wanna find out what I've done within these 3 years?

Now, to secure a full time job, earn and save money before I embark on my journey to take a degree.

Here we go again!

FYP nearly drove us crazy!

Saturday, March 10, 2012 / , , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Crazy deadlines. Annoying group members. Conflicts within our team. Death stare drama. 1001 different proposals and ideas that will not come through as planned due to the lack of time, budget, resources. If you've yet to do your Final Year Project, I assure you, you are in for a wild ride.

I've been to the Sakura Family Restaurant outlet but I've never actually tried the buffet version so last night, my FYP lecturer decided to give us a treat and off we went to Sakura International Buffet Restaurant. :)
Thank you Ms Brenda!

Overall, food was pretty good. If you're into sushi and seafood, you'll probably enjoy the buffet. Some special mentions, you gotta try the Oreo Cheesecake, Laksa, Durian Pengat, Sharks Fin (fake one of course!), Pai Tee and the durian puff! Yums. It was nice to meet up with half the gang reminiscing the times FYP nearly drove all of us crazy. We pulled through with a distinction and we're done with school!

Mcdonalds brings joy to the elderly!

Friday, January 27, 2012 / , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Happy.

Eating at Mcdonalds ALWAYS brings a smile to our faces.

Please. Don't pretend.

Are you sure you don't feel happy when you go to McDonalds?

LOOK AT THIS.

Buy one get one~~~

HAPPY RIGHT, HAPPY RIGHT? :D

Anyway, the yummy burger is not the main point of this entry.

McDonald's hosted 38 seniors from the Lion Befrienders Service Association last week for a Chinese New Year dinner and I decided that instead of going home after work, it'll be good if I attended the event because it's for a good cause. I don't actually celebrate Chinese New Year so I thought it would be a good experience to spend the evening with the seniors.

I tried mingling around with the seniors with the limited vocab I picked up while watching chinese dramas. Doesn't she look really happy?

The highlight of my evening.

This uncle took out his handphone and asked me to come nearer to him so that he could take a picture of me. I was so shyyyyy. And then, he asked if he could take a picture with me. So above is a photo of him and me using my camera.

He said that people with a broad nose (yes, like mine) would have alot of luck. Hmmmm.....

He called me "sayang" which means love in malay and hugged and kissed me before saying goodbye! Haha Wow, that was quite a night. Bf said it might be because I like to go for older guys. Hahahaha right!
> ___<""

Have you seen how big Ronald's shoes are? My goodness!

Look at how happy they all look!

After the seniors left, we had our dinner.

Look at those fries!

Anyway, you might be thinking......

"Why is this blogger giving Mcdonalds free publicity? This CNY thing is probably a one off thing to look good. PR lor. Last year kena slammed about not having curry!"

Well, let me share with you my experience with Mcdonalds.

3 years ago, in my first year of Polytechnic education, I had this module that required us to do some community involvement work. Thing is, we were given the freedom to contact, plan and liaise with any communities. The kampong being the kampong, we wanted to do something.... much more fun. Something meaningful. So we contacted Darul Ihsan and volunteered to plan an outing for the 15 underprivileged kids. We did all the planning but one thing we were lacking was... the funds for food.

So my group made wrote an email to McDonalds and asked if they were interested to be our sponsor. It was just a small outing. We planned all sorts of games for them!

15 kids aged 9 to 12
5 of us to be facilitators.
Venue: Botanic Gardens

I was really skeptical that Mcdonalds would even reply us. I mean, why would they even bother. We were just a bunch of poly kids, but to our surprise, McDonalds actually AGREED to sponsor the kids food. We were extremely happy and thankful! Think about it this way. Mcdonalds knew that they probably wouldn't get anything in return for the sponsorship but they still did it for the kids. All of us were very touched by their kindness. Actually, we still are. I would love to post the photos of the outing but we weren't given permission to share photos of the kids online by Darul Ihsan. But rest assured, they were all VERY HAPPY. :)

Once again, thank you Mcdonalds.

Thank you for inviting the old folks and us bloggers to be part of your Chinese New Year dinner. Thank you for also sponsoring our outing's lunch for the Darul Ihsan kids 3 years ago.

2 weeks ago, I had a dinner with my friends at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates Guild. It was sort of like last "get together" with the whole batch of final years students of SP's Diploma in Media and Communication before internship. I cannot believe that we're gonna graduate very, very soon. I've had the best time of my life here in SP. :)

Here are the girls in my class. I love each and every single one of them to bits. It's nice to wake up everyday knowing that your classmates are very nice people. We have our own cliques, nevertheless we get along equally well with each other.  :')

Yan Ting, Amanda Tan, Eunice, Michelle, Sandy, Shazana, Kasturi, Farah and Celest.
I LOVE YOU ALL. <3

Check out my necklace! You like? Bought it from a blogshop for like $5 ONLY. ;)

So.... People were using my phone to camwhore. Hahahaha!

We were bored, so we started playing a game Eunice suggested.

Michelle and me.

Bulb/SPACE director and me. Officially the sexiest guy of the whole cohort. Hahaha :)

Eunice sayang, Amanda Tan who dances and Celest who wants to be a radio dj.

Eunice and me. She's from Malaysia and I really like talking to her. We would talk in Malay just to annoy our classmates cus they won't be able to understand us! So fun!! I miss you already. :( <3

The boys in my class. Took this picture from Shazana's camera. Look at Dominic's eyes!! Quite freaky!!

And, it was time to go home so we were taking photos.....

And the rest of them joined us!! KEPO AH!!! Lol :P

Here are the 3 lecturers who have played a big part of my life.

Here's Ms Pam, my social media lecturer. She's currently the lecturer in charge for SP's Centre for Social Media. She's supportive of my passion, she knows what I want and most importantly, she never fails to believe in me. Thank you. :')

Here's Ms Chong, my law lecturer. She's extremely supportive of my blog and I thank her for that. She's super nice eventhough I'm not a very good law student. Haha :P

Here's Ms Trudy, the lecturer who taught me when I was in year 1. She has chocolates, potato chips and all kind of snacks in her room. I remember how my friends and I would ALWAYS go to her room, chit chat and grab some snacks. Hehe, thank you Ms Trudy. <3

Thank you everyone. Let's meet up soon for dinner. We'll plan something out soon ok?

This song goes out to you. <3
