Cafehopping: Rouse & Comestivel Desserts

Wednesday, August 12, 2015 / , , , , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

Recently, I brought my family out to 2 different halal cafes. 1 is Rouse on Dunlop Street (near little india) and the other, to Comestivel Desserts! I was impressed by the online reviews of Rouse so I thought of giving it a try.

Rouse Cafe
36 Dunlop Street

Rouse is known for its variety of mains so I was quite excited about it. Here's a picture of me in front of the cafe. Parking is quite tough here so you'll need to come early and probably spend some time looking for a parking lot. Lucky for us, we got one which was quite near to the cafe.

Salsa Fries
Looks good but just taste like chopped onions and tomatoes. Nothing great about this.

Spicy Crab Penne
This tasted alright. Wouldn't order it again though.

Caesar Salad with added Shredded Chicken
Such a generous portion. Pretty worth it for $12, I must say.

B.O.B
This classic beef burger tasted alright. The patty was quite juicy!

Overall, food at Rouse isn't bad but it's not fantastic either. Either that or that I'm just really choosy. I will most likely not go back to Rouse, that's for sure. Keep in mind that cafes aren't cheap but you're probably paying for Instagram worthy food + a chill atmosphere. Great for you to sit, chat and drink kopi with old friends for hours. Maybe it's time I give up on cafes because my view of cafes being overpriced and serving MEH food still stands. With the same amount of money, I probably would feel happier eating at some halal seafood restaurant.
Looks like I may have to stop giving cafes chances ah. The last time I was this disappointed was when I gave Penny University a try. :P

But when it comes to Comestivel Desserts, I'll probably be back just for the Pavlovas. So shiok! It's located all the way in Siglap but don't worry, there's delivery options too. Just check them out on Facebook to find out more.

Till the next food adventure!

A National Day Special: Back To Basics

Monday, August 10, 2015 / , , , , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

This year marks the 50th year of independence for Singapore. Being a local blogger and because I just received my shopping loots from Forever 21 , I thought it'd be apt to do a National Day Special.

Sometimes, this country makes me feel like I'm in a foreign land. Sometimes, I feel that I do not have a place here. Sometimes I feel that we're not "fun" enough as a country just 'cus there isn't any real, pretty beaches (other than Sentosa which is man made), there isn't any big festivals (other than Zoukout/Siloso Beach Party) and there isn't much things you can do here. (other than cafehopping?!)

However, when I meet other people from other countries, they tell me how life here is much more *insert positive characteristics* than their real homes that it makes them wish this was home for them. They're always impressed by our achievements as a nation. Maybe a huge part of it is contributed by the fact that we're just a little red dot on the map.

It makes me feel a little guilty for taking this home of mine for granted. Sometimes we're always so pessimistic that we forget to be thankful for what we have. This place is safe - I can walk alone at night without feeling scared, I don't have to be scared of taxi drivers kidnapping me and I don't have to be worried about any protests/riots happening anywhere here. I hope it stays this way. I have thought of working in a foreign land someday, (if I get an offer I won't be able to resist) hopefully, because I would like to experience life out of Singapore but this place will ALWAYS be home for me.

Back to the fashion talk :)

For this shoot, my outfit style is quite different than my usual looks. I went back to basics with this Tartan Plaid Shirt and Skinny Jeans from Forever 21. This is my first pair of pants in YEARS. YEARS, I tell ya!! It's SO HARD to find that fits me well!

On a separate note, have you ever wondered if a pair of skinny jeans will still be called "Skinny Jeans" if it's made for someone plus sized? Haha

If you look through my past OOTDs, I normally don't wear pants/jeans and would normally opt for a skirt instead because...

ONE
 I have a big butt (no shit, sherlock), therefore it's harder to get a pair of jeans that would fit me comfortably, as compared to a skirt.

TWO
The weather here is really humid. #Complaincomplain #Typicalsingaporean
Uhm.... Skirts provide the right ventilation I need for my chunky legs.

So ya lor - here's a back to basic look for this National Day Special. Are you wearing red today? Share with me some selfies la!

Cheers,

Addictive PopGal popcorns + Giveaway!

Saturday, August 8, 2015 / , , , , , ,

MynameisQUE;

[Advertorial]

Recently, a blogger friend sent me a couple bottles of PopGal popcorns to my office and everyone got so excited. I felt very skeptical lah but gave it a try anyway because there’s no harm giving popcorns another chance.

So here’s a little background: When it comes to popcorn, I get VERY picky. Before I tasted PopGal, only Garette popcorn made the cut. The rest of the popcorns eg: the sort you buy from NTUC/Golden Village etc, are the popcorns you will NEVER see me eating. In fact, I don’t eat popcorns at all when I watch a movie! Why? Meh... I don't waste calories on substandard food. *insert talk-to-the-hand emoji*

My personal opinion: Garette popcorn is nice BUT it’s expensive and it’s packed in paper so it turn ‘laohong’ very easily. Hate it when that happens, especially their cheese popcorns! However now that I’ve been introduced to PopGal, there’s NO TURNING BACK for me! In fact, I might even buy and sneak a bottle into the cinema. Hahahahaha you can do the same too, as long as you don’t blame it on my blog or me when you get caught ah!

OKAY, OKAY, time to share with you more about PopGal! :)

PopGal is a brand under Daily Fresh Foods Group, one of the leading retailer of snacks in the world. It’s made from the best quality of mushroom popcorn kernels. I also found out that their popcorns are made WITHOUT any oil so that’s fantastic. No wonder my fingers didn’t feel oily when I kept popping them into my mouth! #NonStopPopping

Best part is, PopGal is halal certified!
Kakak-kakak, don't worry. This one got Malaysia's JAKIM Halal chop hor. [The equivalent of MUIS in Singapore]

WHERE TO BUY?
Currently PopGal popcorns are available at all Cheers outlets and
RedMart. It comes in 4 different flavours; Caramel, Spicy Curry, Honeydew & Seaweed. For retail selling price, it is priced at SGD4.80 for large-sized and SGD3.30 for small-sized, which is very reasonable for high quality popcorns.

It’s soooo good that I’ve decided to buy a couple of bottles more (with my own money. Not sponsored!) to share with my colleagues at work. Good things must share mah! Tried Redmart for the first time and I’m quite impressed. If you choose to have it delivered on a certain day, you will get to enjoy discount. In this case, I got $4 discount because I chose to have it delivered on Monday morning. Woohoo!

If you ask me to choose between Caramel, Spicy Curry, Honeydew and Seaweed popcorn, I wouldn’t be able to do so because they’re all SOOOO good! You need to try it to believe it. It’s crunchy, flavourful and addictive. You’ll keep coming back for more, I swear.

So yeah, it’s GIVEAWAY time!
Wanna win some PopGal popcorns?
All you have to do is email me at rynaque@gmail.com with the following:
1.  WHERE you can get your PopGal popcorns

2. Your contact details (full name, contact number and email address)

My treat! The team at Daily Fresh and Redmart aren't sponsoring this. It will come out from my own pocket because I’m just feeling generous.

Good luck and let’s stop wasting calories on shitty popcorns!
