You should date a girl who reads

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 / ,

MynameisQUE;

Date a girl who reads.

Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes, who has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve. Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she has found the book she wants. You see that weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a secondhand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow and worn. She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street.

If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book. Buy her another cup of coffee. Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads.

Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does. She has to give it a shot somehow. Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her.

Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two. Why be frightened of everything that you are not?

 Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series. If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are. You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

 Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

Annoying blogshops

Sunday, October 31, 2010 / ,

MynameisQUE;

I've always wanted to blog about this thing but I didn't have the time.

Have you ever came across those grumpy, ill mannered shop owners outside?
I bet you have. Something I cannot stand, ever are shopowners,
who treat their customers like SHIT. Like being rude, not being helpful
enough or you know, just having the bitchy face while serving you.
SO ANNOYING.

I thought that only happens in real life because most blogshop owners I know are pretty nice.

Well, I was wrong. I rarely accept FB requests from blogshop owners because I
don't like the fact that most of them use the blogshop name as their FB name and
I won't know who is REALLY the owner of the account. When it comes to my
official FB account, I take privacy very seriously.

Until.... I accepted Ladieslite Shop's friend request.

Fierce Bio.

Photobucket

Facebook page

Photobucket

This status when I printscreened this really caught my eye.
It amazes me how she's so daring to actually post that kind of stuff
when she knows that both her potential and recent customers will read the post.

I think its our right as customers to have expectations of a certain thing
we bought from the blogshop. Seriously, the stuffs she sold weren't DIRT CHEAP.
If it was, then obviously factors like quality will obviously be out of the question.

Photobucket

She is probably, the most ridiculous blog shop owner I've met on the Cyber world.

I don't know how the idea of 'tagging customers on photo' came about,
but sometimes I feel that they get 'free publicity' by doing so.
That's why I made my tagged photos on FB private and can only
be seen by me. :)

I don't know why people still buy from blogshops like this.

Photobucket

What is really amusing is that she knows she's using FB as a social networking tool
to actually market the stuff that she sells but she fails to understand the
whole purpose of a SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE.
Its where feedback and communication takes place,
so I don't see why she has to act in such manner.

Another thing that I wasn't quite happy was the fact that she has
one whole album of particulars of dead buyers on her FB.
If you add her up, you'll be able to see the album and the particulars
of those people who changed their mind about buying from her.

These details include things like name, email address,
HOME ADDRESS AND CONTACT NUMBER.

I think she's going too far because details like that are supposed to be
kept CONFIDENTIAL and should NOT be up on the net.

Photobucket

In return to remove the their details, she wants $50.
I'm not sure if she's joking but feels like extortion to me.

But in another FB status....

Photobucket

So I guess, she's not really serious about the $50 / $500 since
she can't even tell the difference between the two.

I tried reporting the page but nothing happened.

Please report the page and spread this to your friends!
We should all be aware of blogshop owners like this. :)

Heartless in the heartland

Friday, October 29, 2010 / ,

MynameisQUE;

I AM SO ANNOYED. SO SO ANNOYED.

This cat was found dead at the void deck of a block in Tampines.
What kind of nonsense is this?
How can people be so heartless and do this innocent cat??

Photobucket

Tell me, who in the RIGHT MIND would do such a thing?

Trash Talking about minahs

Monday, October 25, 2010 / ,

MynameisQUE;

Video has already been removed by the user.
So I guess what better way to give feedback than by blogging.
Seriously girls? Hahahah *facepalm*

Well, honestly? I think that video just reflects on how we humans are.
We are never ever accepting of others, especially if they are deemed as 'different'.
When you're 'different', you fuck up. People think you fuck up real bad in life.
Life is about conforming. Media portrays this and that as the right way to be,
once you are different, you gotta be open to criticism.

These kids are young and I bet they learnt their lesson.
Gotta admit young, reckless and pretty naive.
When I was that young I did many stupid things too. LOL

But seriously girls? This mat and minah thing is so last year. Zzzzzz

On behalf of all the boob baring fat girls out there,

MynameisQUE;

Today is the last day I can really enjoy and rest without worrying about anything
because school reopens tomorrow. Zzzzz If only we didn't have a 'holiday'
during the YOG period, we would have a longer holiday now. Urgh.

So I'm just gonna post the photos I took this week. Haven't been updating much.

Turning eighteen with the girls...

Thursday, October 7, 2010 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

That day, Farah and me had to go to school for some briefing.
After that, we took a bus to harbourfront, vivo to meet the girls.
YES. THERE IS A STRAIGHT BUS TO VIVO FROM SP.
How cool is that? I digress.

I wasn't really wearing make up cos I was very excited and
I couldn't be bothered. No contact lenses too. LOL
Yes, bare face. :(

My eyesight is really bad btw. So when we reached Vivo,
Farah said the girls were sitting on the floor.

I asked her, "Farah, what's that light on the floor? I can't see clearly".

Turns out, they got for me a cake! :) So sweet of the girls.

Photobucket

LOL Finally can see the cake in front of my eyes. hehehe

Awesome food at Jtown Cafe!

Monday, September 20, 2010 / ,

MynameisQUE;

I first got to know about Jtown Cafe through Calvin via his tweets
and his review on his blog. The pictures look really good
and when I saw, the words Black Pepper Bakso and
Durian Martabak, I told myself that I had to try it myself.

You know what's the best part?
There's a straight bus from Singapore Polytechnic to the cafe!
You can just take 106 and alight opposite Somerset 313, directly in front
of Midpoint Orchard.

It was an impromptu lunch date with a friend so I didn't
bring my camera. Had to resort to using my friend's iPhone. LOL.
Sorry for the not so clear pictures!

My friend ordered Bakso Rebus.
I asked her, "Wah, you eat meatballs only ah? Diet is it?".
Apparently, she's sick of eating noodles as most of the houses she visited
during Raya served fried noodles. LOL.

A 500 word essay....

Monday, September 13, 2010 / , ,

MynameisQUE;

Twitter is where you get to see the almost raw side of me. Well, almost. Just by 140 characters, I get judged as annoying, whiny, irritating, ignorant, downright offensive and.....the negative adjectives never stops. Well I’m not denying any of those claims actually. IMHO, better honest and straightforward then being a hypocrite. Having a public twitter account also means creating talk for the haters.
‘Hate me or love me, you’re still talking about me’.
Such a lame line but you know this is true.

Posting my picture on your blog, talking behind my back on twitter (Well considering I’m not following you so you’re talking about me ‘behind my back’) and just bitching about me to your friends, all that is good for me my dear cos no matter what, you and your group of friends keep coming back to my blog every now and then. The more you talk about me, the more you direct other people to my blog and that contributes to my blog traffic. I’m sure you’re smarter than that. Thank you for that.

People can talk all they want, but they are just strangers. They don’t mean a thing to me and they’ve either never met me or have never ever dared to express such hatred in my face. Never. The most someone said to me years ago was, “Why you don’t want to exercise ah?” But then again, that was just a question. Not hatred.

What makes you think that you know me well enough? You’ve never met me; you’ve never even had a decent conversation with me. So what makes you so sure that I don’t have ‘nice personality’? I think I have a pretty decent personality. Not nice, not excellent just plain decent. “You would know this if you analyse the big picture and realise that I'm nice and civilised to people most of the time”. I’m sorry I had to steal your line but it goes the same for me.

Since you stay around Tampines, I bet one of these days you’ll definitely see me around. If you do, don’t forget to say Hi and express your dissatisfaction in my face. Better still; maybe take a picture or two so that you can upload it on your blog since you’re always so keen of promoting me. Don’t worry, I’m friendly.

Sidenote: Thank you Beth. This post would not have been possible without you. Thank you for always having faith in me.

PS: // I’ve seen you with your other half at Simpang Bedok once but I didn’t approach you because you were having your dinner. Maybe I should have eh, so maybe you could have spat in my face or something. Yummy! BTW just so you know, this is not a comeback post. It is just a simple honest 500 word essay I wrote to convince you the more you blog/tweet about me, the more you’re promoting ME! ME LIKEY! Shameless yes but you know it is true.
