Guest Blogger: Fat women, unattractive???

I strive to live a life that’s truly real and full of happiness. So, let’s get real. I am a fat woman. I know this and you know this. However, I am fairly attractive. So, when I read one of my students’ diary entries I got upset when I saw this.

This young lady is really only 12 or 13 years old. She is supposed to gain weight at her age because it’s natural and healthy. I was deeply saddened by this, so, I wrote her a letter.

 I hope that she will take my advice and live the best life she can, which in this country, where I can’t fit women’s clothes, underwear, socks, shoes, or gloves, might be a little difficult to accomplish. It took me a very long time to accept my body and the way I look. Until recently, I have been very hard on myself about my body. However, in the words of my favorite artist, India Arie,
“I know my creator didn’t make no mistakes on me.”

 I believe this is how I was born to be. I accept it. I love it.
 I am one of many fat women who are absolutely gorgeous.
