MynameisQUE;
The
other day, I was very privileged to be invited to the Singapore’s Gala Premiere
of Senna.
To
be honest, I’m not much of an Formula One fan myself, but I definitely enjoyed
myself.
Well, it’s a documentary
about Ayrton Senna who was a Brazilian racing driver who won the Formula One
world championship 3 times. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1
racers of all time. However, he was killed in a crash while leading the 1994
San Marino Grand Prix. Since his death, the F1 organising team has taken
precautions to heighten safety measures and there has not been any deaths ever
since.
The show was truly
inspiring. It really showed how Senna’s life as an F1 driver was filled with
ups and downs. Senna was really a very lucky guy. He grew up in a very
wealthy family, thus even when he was very young, when he showed interest in
go-karting, his family was able to support him. We all have dreams, don’t we?
But sometimes we don’t exactly get to fulfil those dreams because of
circumstances like not having enough money or it could even be not even having
support from the people you love.
The road to success for
him wasn’t an easy one. He had the money, but he needed the right skills to be
a champion. He trained hard and he finally succeeded. Honestly, how often do
you feel like giving up on something just because you think you can’t do it? It
was exactly the same like Senna. He had his low points too but he did not allow
his failure to hinder his passion for F1 racing. If you fail, TRY, TRY AND TRY
AGAIN. Don’t give up.
Like a friend of mine always said,
“You won’t taste success if you’ve
never felt the struggle”.
At that point in time, Brazil was a
poor country. However, despite that, he was would wave his Brazil flag proudly
after winning a race. He was very proud of being Brazilian and it’s really
inspiring to me.
Despite growing up in somewhat
privileged circumstances, Senna recognized the hardships that many of his
countrymen faced and was most concerned about kids and their future. His family
adopted Ayrton’s passion and, after his death, established the Ayrton Senna
Institute, which has helped to educate more than 12 million Brazilian children
with funds from his estate. He was successful, rich and he cared about the less
fortunate. Senna was a great man. I hope you get to watch the documentary soon
and be inspired just like me.

in second place, I have to be leading.” - Aryton Senna
This Gala Premiere was held in conjunction with the upcoming 2011 Formula
1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. A whopping $50,000 was raised for the 28
beneficiaries of the President’s Challenge 2011!
